RENEW: Renewing the Faith, Choose Love

In this series, Renewing Faith, we’ve looked at the walk of faith of some well know, inspiring people: Esther, Rahab, Abraham, Peter, and Daniel. These are men and women who, in spite of their questions, uncertainties, doubts, and fears, chose to trust; chose to be courageous; chose to obey; chose to take great risks. However, not everyone who embraced this challenging journey of faith is well known. Today, I want to talk about one such person known only as the poor widow. We are not told her name but Jesus is deeply moved by her great faith!

Primary passages:
Mark 12:38-44

Other Bible references:
Hebrews 11:6
Deuteronomy 14:23

RENEW: Renewing the Faith, Choosing Courage

This walk of faith is a challenge! It’s always been a challenge even for the “heroes” of the faith! Trusting God is not as easy as we’d like it to be and when our trust meets life’s challenges our trust in God is not as strong as we hoped it would be. Last week we looked at faith of Esther! She chose to trust God even though she didn’t know what the outcome would be. This week we look at the faith of Rahab, a woman whose legacy echoes through the halls of history. It all centers on one courageous act, one critical decision.

Primary passage:
Joshua 2:1-11
Joshua 6: 22-25

Other Bible references:

AUTHENTIC PURSUIT: Relentless Grace

When engaging in life together, sometimes, relationships take a wrong turn. Friendships are wounded. When this happens, we easily slip into our old ways and revenge feels natural and acceptable. Jesus shows us another way, the way of relentless grace.

1 Thessalonians 5:15

Other Bible references:
Hebrews 12
Matthew 5:43
Matthew 5:44-45
1 Thessalonians 1
Ephesians 4:39
Matthew 18

Martin mentioned the book Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Martin also quoted Bertrand Russell.

AUTHENTIC PURSUIT: Life Together

An essential part of our Christian faith is life together. Our God is a relational God! Our understanding of life together is rooted in the community of the Trinity, modeled by the heart & ways of Jesus, and it is to be lived out in the heart and ways of His people. This is why Paul tells the entire Thessalonian church: 5:14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
